Armenia denies claims made by US envoy over Zangezur Corridor talks
Armenia has denied any discussions regarding the "delegation of control over its territory" to a third party, following reports that the United States offered to manage the Zangezur corridor for 100 years, Armenian Prime Minister’s spokesperson Nazeli Baghdasaryan said.
Speaking on the matter, Baghdasaryan reiterated Yerevan’s stance on the issue, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
"We have repeatedly stated that Armenia discusses the issue of unblocking regional infrastructure exclusively in the context of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia. We cannot discuss any other logic. The option mentioned by the US Ambassador is impossible," she said.
Her comments come in response to an earlier report, which quoted US Ambassador to Türkiye, Tom Barrack, as saying that Washington had expressed its readiness to take over the management of the 32-kilometer Zangezur corridor on a 100-year lease.
According to Barrack, the main goal of the proposal is to help advance diplomatic negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
