17 August 2026 11:26
A new eruption has been recorded at Klyuchevskoy, Eurasia’s highest active volcano, in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, according to the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team.
It said that on the morning of August 17, explosions sent an ash plume up to 7 kilometres above sea level, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The ash plume is moving northeast. A glow has been observed above the summit at night, while lava continues to fountain from the crater.
Standing at 4,850 meters, Klyuchevskoy is considered one of the world’s most active volcanoes. It is located about 360 kilometres from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
