Turkish president declares new era as PKK disarms, ending 47 years of terrorism
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that a new era has begun in Türkiye following a formal disarmament ceremony by PKK terrorists held on July 11, paving the way to end the country’s 47-year period of terrorism.
As reported by TRT Haber, the President made the statement during an address to members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
"The terrorist organisation PKK had previously announced its decision to disband. As part of that decision, it took a step and laid down its arms during a ceremony [in northern Iraq on July 11]. My dear nation, yesterday marked the beginning of the end of a 47-year era of terrorism. This is a new day. Today, a new chapter has opened in our country’s history — the doors of a great and powerful Türkiye have been thrown wide open," Erdogan stated.
Erdogan also announced plans to establish a parliamentary commission to discuss legislative matters related to Kurdish reconciliation.
