Russia settles on candidate for ambassador to US, awaiting Washington's approval

The Russian authorities have already decided on a candidate for the post of the country's ambassador to the United States, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

"As for <...> the ambassador, I can tell you absolutely clearly: there is a candidate," the diplomat noted, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

She also emphasized that Washington has not yet issued an approval for the new Moscow ambassador.

On January 31, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the United States is gradually approaching the alarming zone in terms of the duration of the decision to issue an approval. According to him, the Russian authorities continue to wait for Washington's decision, but no progress has been observed on its part so far.

The name of the candidate for the post of Moscow's ambassador to the American capital has not been officially announced. But some Russian sources said this post could be taken by Alexander Darchiev. He currently heads the North American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
