Russian Foreign Ministry accuses France of insulting Christians
Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrey Nastasin has criticised the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics, describing it as an example of moral and political degradation.
He accused France of deliberately insulting Christian sentiments, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
“The climax of the opening ceremony showcased a profound decline in spirituality and the moral foundations of Western civilization. Paris officially and deliberately affronted the feelings of Christians and other believers, blasphemously desecrating the figure of the Savior and his disciples,” the diplomat stated at a briefing.
The LGBT movement (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders) is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is prohibited) managed to design the program of the opening ceremony in such a way as to use the Olympic Games to promote their “perverted views” through the full support of the official authorities of France,” he said.
The diplomat pointed out that, according to rough estimates, over two billion people around the world practice Christianity.
“There is no doubt that the French authorities took this step—disguised as artistic creativity—deliberately, showing blatant disregard for the traditional and sacred values of a vast number of people,” he added.
“The organizers of the Olympic Games, which are meant to promote harmony and the triumph of peace, have, from the very outset, turned them into a spectacle of excess. Instead of fostering connections between nations, the West persists in erecting barriers between peoples and cultures,” he said.
Earlier, Anne Descamps, Spokesperson for Paris 2024, told reporters that the organizers did not intend to disrespect anyone during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She added that they apologize “if we have offended anyone.”
