SCO voices concern over unrest in Iran, calls for diplomatic solution
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has expressed serious concern over recent tragic events in the Islamic Republic of Iran, which have resulted in casualties among civilians and law enforcement personnel, as well as damage to civil infrastructure.
In an official statement, the organisation extended its condolences to the people and government of Iran, Caliber.Az reports.
The SCO noted that unilateral sanctions have had a significant negative impact on the country’s economic stability, worsening living conditions for citizens and limiting the government’s ability to implement socio-economic programmes.
“The SCO opposes interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The organisation upholds the principles of respect for sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and rejects the use of force or threats in international relations. We call for the peaceful resolution of the situation through political and diplomatic means,” the statement said.
