Tehran credits Pakistan as main bridge in ongoing US negotiations

11 May 2026 13:12

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said that Pakistan continues to serve as the primary intermediary in communications between Tehran and Washington regarding efforts to de-escalate tensions and address outstanding disputes.

Baghaei stated that Iran’s dialogue with the United States is being conducted “exclusively through Pakistan,” even as other regional actors engage in parallel diplomatic efforts, Tasnim reports.

“Various countries are maintaining contacts on this issue, and many countries in the region have genuine concerns about the escalation of tensions. Nevertheless, the mediator remains Pakistan,” he said. “Pakistan, as the official mediator between Iran and the US, continues its efforts in this direction. (…) Pakistan is certainly performing its work professionally and does not allow its actions to be influenced by third parties.”

Baghaei also criticized what he described as “illegal actions” by the United Arab Emirates toward Iranian citizens, saying such measures “are certainly contrary to human rights norms,” and added: “We are obliged to protect our citizens.”

At the same time, he highlighted Qatar’s diplomatic role in the region, describing it as one of the most active states maintaining relations with both Tehran and Washington. He said Doha regularly shares its views and proposals on settlement efforts with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
