Turkish foreign minister, EU commissioner discuss relations over phone

EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed Türkiye-EU relations over the phone on September 14, Anadolu reports citing diplomatic sources.

Varhelyi recently visited Türkiye on a three-day visit, during which he met senior government officials, including Fidan, to talk about all dimensions of Türkiye-EU relations.

The country, which straddles Europe and Asia, became a candidate to join the EU in 1999 and started membership negotiations in 2005.
