Two killed in strikes near Sayyeda Zeinab shrine in Damascus
Two people were killed and several others were injured on January 29, in strikes near the Sayyeda Zeinab shrine complex on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus.
Strong explosions were heard, Caliber.Az reports, citing the London-based monitoring group The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The SOHR report notes that the headquarters of Lebanon's Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps are located in the Sayyeda Zeinab neighborhood.
Normally, Syrian air defenses try to repel air strikes on targets near Damascus. This time there were no reports of air defense actions.
Earlier, the Syrian opposition website Political Keys reported that the Iraqi "Popular Mobilization Forces" (Hashd al-Shaabi) delivered a large shipment of Iranian surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles to Damascus on January 27.
The types of missiles that were delivered to Damascus by this route were named: PHL-81 (Chinese-made 122-millimeter missiles with cluster warheads, range about 20 km), Fajr-1 (Iranian-made based on North Korean technology, caliber 107 mm, range up to 40 km), Misagh-2 MANPADS (Iranian-made based on Chinese technology) and Majid anti-aircraft missiles (Iranian-made). The size of the shipment was not specified.
