Turkish FM reports not having received proposal for separate admission of Finland, Sweden into NATO

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said that Ankara has not received any proposals from Sweden and Finland to separate NATO admission processes.

"We have not received any proposals to separate the Swedish and Finnish accession processes, so I cannot say something like 'we will also consider'," CNN Turk quotes Cavusoglu as saying.

According to the minister, Türkiye sees no point in negotiating the trilateral mechanism for these two countries to join the North Atlantic Alliance at the moment.

He stressed, that Sweden should decide whether it is going to become a member of NATO or not, rather than planting "mines" in the process.

Pointing to the recent Quran-burning incident outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, Cavusoglu said that Europe should be changing its anti-terrorism laws, but instead Swedish authorities resorted to this "racist action".
