First deputy chairwoman of the Russian community Anastasia Lavrina has said that members of the Russian community and the Association of Russian Youth of Azerbaijan have joined the participants in the peaceful rally of eco-activists on the Lachin road.
“From the very first days of the rally, the Russian community of Azerbaijan has supported the actions and legitimate demands of Azerbaijani environmental activists on the Lachin road,” Lavrina told Azertag.
“Environmental activists and representatives of Azerbaijani NGOs have been holding a peaceful rally on the Lachin-Khankendi road in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region since December 12, 2022, demanding to put an end to the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in this region. Today, we have personally joined this rally demanding to stop the looting of natural resources and transport them to Armenia. This is our land, Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan recognised by the whole world. Those who are trying to condemn our actions, let them ask themselves. Would they allow illegal exploitation and destruction of the environment in their territories? Surely not,” she said.
Lavrina explained the reason for joining this rally reminding that the rally of eco-activists has been going on for more than 50 days and all this period the road has been open for the transportation of humanitarian goods, as well as the movement of civilian vehicles.
“Today, my colleagues and I from the Russian community were able to see everything. While taking part in this rally, we will also prevent the illegal use of Lachin road. During the post-war period, when Azerbaijan was talking about peace, Armenia illegally continued to supply mines and weapons to Karabakh, where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily deployed. Mines were planted by saboteurs in the liberated Azerbaijani territories. This led to new victims. It won't happen again. An end was put to the illegal visits of politicians from different countries such as French presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse and some other political figures who decide to build their careers by visiting Karabakh through the Lachin road illegally. There is one road to Karabakh, only through Azerbaijan. I think that all countries that are interested in establishing peace in the South Caucasus region should support Azerbaijan’s actions,” she added.
Lavrina thinks that such criminals as Ruben Vardanyan are practically holding the ethnic Armenians of Karabakh hostage, thinking only about their own interests.
“The future of these people is nothing for him. Vardanyan cares about his business and the opportunity to build a political career, and when he realises that he has no future in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh, he will simply run away, as he once left Moscow,” she said.
