French opposition fails to achieve abolition of pension reform

The French opposition has failed to achieve the abolition of the pension reform.

The corresponding proposal of "Unsubdued France" left party did not find sufficient support in the National Assembly, according to ТАСС.

Some 243 MPs voted for the initiative not to consider the draft law on pension reform and refused further debate, and 292 MPs voted against it.

Earlier, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced that the French government had settled on a compromise option - retirement for the French from 64 years old instead of 62 years old.

The large-scale rallies against the pension reform will be held in France on February 7. According to the Interior Ministry, 11,000 police officers across the country will control the situation. The strike will also affect the movement of metro and electric trains in the Île-de-France region.

The first nationwide strike against pension reform was held throughout France on January 19.

According to the Interior Ministry, more than a million people took part in it. According to the General Confederation of Labour trade union, some 2.8 million people participated in the second nationwide strike on January 31.
