Macron talks to Zelenskyy after first call with Putin since 2022
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a rare two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin — their first since September 2022.
According to an informed source, the conversation between Macron and Zelenskyy was constructive, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Macron updated Zelenskyy on the details of his discussion with Putin, which focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the escalating situation in the Middle East.
Earlier on July 1, Macron and Putin discussed regional tensions and Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine.
The phone call marks a notable moment in diplomatic efforts amid heightened conflict.
Macron has previously urged Putin to return to peace talks, condemning Russia’s war crimes and calling for respect of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
In February 2025, Macron announced he had cut off direct contact with Putin following reports of atrocities in Bucha.
