Israeli FM calls on E3 states to reinstate sanctions on Iran Over halting IAEA cooperation
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has urged the E3 countries – Germany, France, and the United Kingdom – to reinstate all sanctions against Iran.
In response to Iran’s recent decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, Saar urged urgent action in a statement on X, Caliber.Az reports.
“The time to activate the Snapback mechanism is now! I call upon the E3 countries – Germany, France and the UK – to reinstate all sanctions against Iran!”
Saar described Iran’s announcement as “scandalous,” underlining that it represents a clear rejection of its international nuclear obligations:
“Iran has just issued a scandalous announcement about suspending its cooperation with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). This is a complete renunciation of all its international nuclear obligations and commitments.”
He concluded with a call for decisive global action:
“The international community must act decisively now and utilise all means at its disposal to stop Iranian nuclear ambitions.”
Earlier, Iran’s president ordered the country to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency following American and Israeli airstrikes on its key nuclear sites, likely further restricting inspectors’ access to Tehran’s uranium enrichment programme, which had approached weapons-grade levels.
President Masoud Pezeshkian’s directive did not specify any timelines or details regarding the suspension.
Nevertheless, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated in an interview that Tehran remains open to negotiations with the United States.
“I don’t think negotiations will restart as quickly as that,” Araghchi said, responding to former President Trump’s suggestion that talks could resume as early as this week. He added: “The doors of diplomacy will never slam shut.”
