Reuters: Turkish police storm opposition party headquarters in Ankara PHOTO

24 May 2026 18:21

Turkish police have stormed the headquarters of the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in an operation aimed at removing its ousted leadership, Reuters reports.

According to the agency, special police units used tear gas and forced entry into the party building, escalating an already tense political situation in the country. Supporters inside attempted to hold barricades and threw objects at doors as the operation unfolded.

No information on casualties has been reported so far.

In a video message published during the raid, ousted opposition leader Özgür Özel said: “We are under attack.” He added that the movement would continue “on the streets” and urged supporters to stand in solidarity and defend party offices.
