Tesla records 14% drop in Q2 deliveries, second consecutive annual decline

02 July 2025 21:59

Tesla delivered approximately 384,122 vehicles in the second quarter of 2025, representing a 14% drop compared with the same period last year, the company announced.

This marks the second straight quarter of declining deliveries, Caliber.Az reports via Tesla’s official website.

Despite this, Tesla’s shares rose around 4% on Wednesday following the announcement.

In comparison, Tesla reported 443,956 deliveries and produced 410,831 vehicles in Q2 2024. For the latest quarter, production stood at 410,244 vehicles, slightly below last year’s figures.

Wall Street analysts had forecast deliveries of about 387,000 vehicles, according to FactSet, while independent researcher Troy Teslike had predicted a lower figure of 356,000. The prediction market Kalshi expected deliveries near 364,000.

Gene Munster, managing partner at Deepwater Asset Management, noted that the results beat the “whisper” forecast by 4% and suggested the decline may have reached its lowest point.

Tesla’s deliveries in the first quarter of 2025 also fell 13% year-on-year to 336,681. The firm does not provide a detailed breakdown of sales or production by model or region but confirmed production of 396,835 units of its popular Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, with 373,728 combined deliveries for these models in Q2.

The company faces mounting competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, which offer newer and more affordable models. Tesla partly attributed the recent drop in sales to customers postponing orders to wait for the refreshed Model Y SUV, which began shipping in March.

Tesla’s reputation has also been affected by political controversies surrounding CEO Elon Musk. Musk’s high-profile support for former US President Donald Trump, and endorsement of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, have prompted waves of protests.

Musk’s involvement in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), aimed at reducing federal agency size and regulatory oversight, ended in May.
