Three generations of Lebanese family killed in Israeli airstrike

Three generations of a Lebanese family, including children, were killed when their home in southern Lebanon was destroyed in an Israeli airstrike overnight, Al Jazeera reported on September 8.

The youngest victim was a two-month-old baby, according to the broadcaster. The family had believed they were safe after the area had remained relatively calm in recent weeks, but the situation changed overnight, Al Jazeera reports. 

Civil defence teams worked through the night and into the morning to clear the rubble and recover bodies trapped beneath concrete slabs. The remains of the final two victims, including a child, were recovered about two hours after rescue operations began.

Israeli forces also carried out overnight artillery shelling in the al-Salouqi and al-Hujeir valleys in southern Lebanon.

The agency added that Israeli forces opened heavy machine-gun fire toward forests near the town of Qabrikha.
