Zelenskyy reports two dead, 10 injured in latest Russian attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched a complex overnight attack involving ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles as well as jet-powered Shahed drones, with strikes damaging civilian and critical infrastructure in Kyiv and several other regions.

Work to deal with the aftermath of the attack has been continuing since overnight in Kyiv, the Kyiv region and elsewhere, Zelenskyy said in a statement posted on Telegram.

“The attack was complex — the Russians deliberately tried to plan it in such a way as to inflict as much damage as possible on the civilian population: ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles were used, as well as jet-powered Shaheds,” Zelenskyy said.

He said Kyiv had suffered significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. Ten people were injured, while two were killed, according to the president. Emergency workers rescued 13 people, he added.

“In the capital, there is significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure. As of now, 10 people are known to have been injured. Medical assistance is being provided to everyone who needs it. State Emergency Service employees managed to rescue 13 people. Unfortunately, two people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy said strikes had also been recorded against critical infrastructure in the Kyiv region. In the Odesa region, a market was hit, while two people were wounded and an apartment building was damaged in Kharkiv.

He said a locomotive belonging to the Kyiv-Sumy train was attacked at a railway station in Sumy region in the morning. No casualties were reported there, while an evacuation was underway.

“Strikes were also carried out on Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk region,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the Ukrainian president, Ukrainian forces shot down 175 aerial targets during the night, although not all incoming threats were intercepted. He said Ukrainian air defences had achieved particularly strong results against cruise missiles, while ballistic missiles remained a major challenge.

“Despite very good results against cruise missiles, the situation with ballistic missiles is particularly difficult. Every day, we convey to our partners the need for interceptor systems,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine had already discussed the issue with U.S. and European partners and was preparing further meetings, including talks with representatives of countries and companies that could assist with the supply and development of Ukraine’s FREYJA anti-ballistic system.

“We have already discussed this issue with our American and European partners, and new meetings are ahead, in particular today, with representatives of countries and companies that can help with the supply and development of our FREYJA anti-ballistic system,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian president thanked partners that have made air defence assistance a priority, saying that such support directly contributes to saving lives. Ukraine has identified ballistic missile defence and the development of FREYJA as key elements of its efforts to strengthen its air defences.
