American aircraft carrier with thousands of troops arrives in Sweden
The American aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge arrived in Stockholm to participate in NATO exercises to "contain" Russia.
According to The New York Times, the crew of the ship consists of 2,400 people, while 26 military aircraft and helicopters can be seen on board. The ship will take part in the training of NATO, Swedish, and Finnish troops in the Baltic Sea. It is expected that the joint forces will perform the tasks of amphibious assault.
Marines, sailors, pilots, and other military personnel from 16 countries must "storm" the lands captured by a mock enemy and "seize" a foothold in the Stockholm archipelago.
The annual international military exercises of the North Atlantic Alliance Baltops 22 will be held in the Baltic Sea region from 5 to 17 June. The maneuvers will begin in Stockholm and end in the German port city of Kiel. Baltops is one of the largest exercises in Northern Europe.
