Azerbaijan, Türkiye hail Shusha declaration, parliamentary ties at Baku meeting PHOTO

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met on June 24 with a delegation led by Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş, with the talks focusing on cooperation within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), bilateral ties and inter-parliamentary relations.

President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the importance of Kurtulmuş’s participation in the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states, held in Baku, and said Azerbaijan would continue to host other events within the framework of the organisation in the future. He stressed the importance of further expanding relations among Islamic countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Kurtulmuş thanked Azerbaijan for the high-level organisation of the parliamentary conference and conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Aliyev. The Azerbaijani president thanked him and asked that his greetings be passed on to Erdoğan.

The Turkish parliament speaker said the event in Baku was important for expanding cooperation within the OIC and described President Aliyev’s address to participants as rich in content.

During the meeting, the two sides also underlined the importance of the Shusha Declaration and said the alliance and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye was unmatched in all areas, including inter-parliamentary cooperation. They described the unity and brotherhood between the two countries as a shared treasure and said their friendship was a key factor in ensuring peace and security in the South Caucasus.

The talks also covered existing cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Turkish legislatures and prospects for further expanding those ties.
