Azerbaijani FM, UNECE rep discuss achievements within Sustainable Development Goals PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, as part of a working visit to Switzerland, met with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tatiana Molcean on September 12.
The prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, Azerbaijan’s achievements within the Sustainable Development Goals were discussed at the meeting. Azerbaijan stands out for its proactive position in the UN bodies, including UNECE, and has made an important contribution to the activity of the organisation, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The views on the work conducted by Azerbaijan within its chairmanship in the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) during 2023, expansion of cooperation with member states within SPECA, facilitation of trade and transportation were exchanged at the meeting.
Bayramov informed Molcean about projects and plans for the restoration of the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation, in particular, about the announcement of a zone with zero emissions by 2050, the creation of a “green energy” zone, the use of renewable energy sources, the “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, management of transboundary water resources and expansion of green spaces.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister also spoke about eco-terrorism by Armenia, destruction as a result of the Armenian occupation, the mine threat in the region, as well as efforts to eliminate the consequences of the occupation.
