Azerbaijani president congratulates Iran’s supreme leader

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei on his election to the post, Caliber.Az reports, citing the president's official website.

In his letter, Aliyev also expressed condolences over the passing of Mojtaba Khamenei’s father, Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The Azerbaijani president highlighted that relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are rooted in the will of their peoples, who have historically lived in an atmosphere of good neighbourliness and friendship.

Aliyev expressed hope that both countries will continue to make joint efforts to develop intergovernmental relations based on mutual respect and trust, in line with the interests of their peoples.
