Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has inspected the newly renovated "Vatan" Sports Lyceum, named after First Karabakh War martyr Tarlan Heybatov, in Baku.

The president was briefed on the improvements by Emin Amrullayev, Minister of Science and Education, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.

Established in 2022 on the foundation of Secondary School No. 126, the "Vatan" Sports Lyceum has been reconstructed with state capital investments, with the renovation completed in December 2024. The institution now accommodates up to 600 students, providing modern educational and sports facilities.

The renovated academic building consists of 22 classrooms, fully equipped with essential teaching materials to ensure a high standard of education. Additionally, specialized laboratories for chemistry, physics, and biology, an informatics room, and a pre-conscription military training classroom have been set up. The facility also includes a library, a 240-seat assembly hall, and various administrative and auxiliary rooms.

The institution’s sports complex has undergone significant upgrades, featuring a multi-purpose hall for basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and fencing, alongside a dedicated wrestling hall. Further enhancements include a gym, judo hall, physiotherapy room, rehabilitation sports hall, steam room, and other auxiliary facilities, ensuring optimal conditions for athletic training.

As part of the reconstruction, a 100-bed dormitory building has been fully renovated to accommodate students from the regions engaged in professional sports. The dining hall, designed to serve 220 people, along with the kitchen, laundry, and other auxiliary rooms, has been equipped with modern technology to meet students’ needs. The lyceum will also provide balanced meals tailored to the nutritional requirements of student-athletes.

Offering education for grades 5 through 11, the lyceum employs around 60 teachers dedicated to the academic and athletic development of the students. Extensive landscaping work has also been carried out to enhance the institution’s outdoor environment.
