Azerbaijani president visits Uzbek first president’s mausoleum in Samarkand PHOTO
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the mausoleum of First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in Samarkand on September 15.
The mausoleum up to eight metres high was erected over the grave of First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Caliber.Az reports on September 15 with reference to the Azerbaijani presidential website.
Such words as “This sacred place is the eternal home of First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a great statesman and politician, dear and beloved son of the Uzbek people, Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov” have been engraved in the Uzbek and English languages on the marble slab, installed at the entrance to the mausoleum.
During the design and construction of the mausoleum, attention was paid to the combination of its design with the Hazrat Khizr Mosque in ancient Samarkand, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
President Aliyev laid flowers at the grave of First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
Then the verses of the Holy Quran were read.
