COP29 preparations: President Aliyev reviews progress at Baku Olympic Stadium
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has visited the Baku Olympic Stadium to inspect the ongoing preparations for COP29.
Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President, briefed the head of state on the preparations underway for the COP29 venue, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The president was also briefed on the construction progress within the 49-hectare Blue Zone of the stadium, covering aspects such as venue design, guest services, transportation logistics in the capital, and accommodation plans.
The briefing also covered the developments in the 8-hectare Green Zone.
It has been noted that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that COP29 is held at a high level, with the required infrastructure being developed.
President Ilham Aliyev gave instructions and directives regarding the work to be carried out.
Notably, Baku will host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
A group of Eastern European countries has chosen Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to host COP29 climate talks next year.
Earlier, Bulgaria withdrew its candidacy to host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in favour of Azerbaijan.
The conference is being held in rotation by five UN regional groups, and Eastern Europe will take part next year.
