Azerbaijani president congratulates Turkmenistan on independence anniversary UPDATED

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence.

In his congratulatory letter dated September 24, Aliyev extended his “most sincere congratulations and best wishes” to Berdimuhamedov and, through him, to the people of Turkmenistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing state media.

The Azerbaijani president praised Turkmenistan’s achievements since gaining independence, noting the country’s progress in strengthening its independence and advancing socio-economic development, as well as its growing standing internationally.

“Azerbaijan sincerely rejoices in these achievements of your brotherly country and consistently supports Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality, which has gained wide recognition worldwide,” Aliyev said.

He also highlighted the current state of Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan relations, attributing their development to the historical, national and moral ties between the two peoples and their good-neighbourly relations.

According to Aliyev, the high level of mutual understanding between Baku and Ashgabat provides a favourable basis for expanding cooperation in trade, economics, energy, transport and logistics, culture and humanitarian affairs.

The Azerbaijani president also referred to Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to Azerbaijan in June, saying that the negotiations held, documents signed and agreements reached during the visit were of particular importance for strengthening bilateral ties.

“I believe that through our joint efforts, Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan friendship and cooperation will continue to develop dynamically, and our strategic partnership will serve the interests of our peoples,” Aliyev said.

He wished Berdimuhamedov good health, happiness and success, and the people of Turkmenistan lasting peace and prosperity.
