Azerbaijani presidential aide shares symbolic video marking arrival of Baku-Aghdam train UPDATED / VIDEO

23 May 2025 20:58

A journey once thought unimaginable has become reality, as the Baku–Aghdam high-speed train completes its route, a powerful symbol of post-conflict transformation in Azerbaijan.

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, highlighted the historic moment in a post on social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports.

“Had I told someone five years ago that we would one day travel from Aghdam to Baku by high-speed train, it might have been dismissed as a dream, a fantasy—or even a legend. Yet today, that vision has become a reality. Together with the members of Coordination Headquarters for the Restoration and Reconstruction of the Liberated Territories, we are returning to the capital aboard the newly inaugurated Aghdam–Baku high-speed train—a powerful symbol of revival and progress across our liberated lands,” the post by Hajiyev notes.

Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, shared a video on social media showing the arrival of the Baku–Aghdam train at Aghdam railway station.

“Aghdam railway station. The Baku–Aghdam train arrives at the platform,” Caliber.Az quotes Hajiyev as saying on X page.

On May 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex. During the event, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev and Azerbaijan Railways Chairman Rovshan Rustamov updated the president on the “Barda–Aghdam Railway Line” project, which includes the construction of the Barda–Aghdam–Khankendi railway and the Khankendi terminal complex.

The Aghdam complex, whose foundation stone was laid in October 2022, serves as a modern transport hub designed to support the city’s development. It can accommodate 800 to 1,000 railway passengers and 1,300 to 1,500 bus passengers daily.

Covering about 8 hectares, the facility offers waiting areas, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment zones, a restaurant, and rest spaces. It also includes vehicle service buildings, parking, bus platforms, bicycle stands, a park, and electric vehicle charging stations.

Following the opening, the first passenger train departed along the new Barda–Aghdam railway line.
