Bulgaria to receive 430 million cubic metres of gas from Azerbajan by year-end
"Today is a historical day," Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, near the Greek town of Komotini where he attended a ceremony to mark the completion of the construction of a gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria, on July 8.
The ceremony is attended by outgoing Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and outgoing Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov, according to Bulgarian News Agency.
The commissioning of the gas link between Greece and Bulgaria is an important step because access to energy sources is very important, Shahbazov said. According to him, the interconnector gives new opportunities for diversification together with the Southern Corridor.
This network contributed to Europe's energy security, said Minister Parviz Shahbazov.
He said that by the end of the year Bulgaria will receive 430 million cubic metres of natural gas from Azerbaijan. In the first half of the year, it received 160 million cubic metres.
Azeri Energy Minister added that the interconnector will make it possible for his country's natural resources to help meet Bulgaria's needs and enhance Europe's diversification.
