Azerbaijani gas transport via TANAP hits over 73 billion cubic meters by 2024 year-end
As of December 31, 2024, the total volume of Azerbaijani gas transported via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) to Türkiye and Europe reached 73.54 billion cubic meters, CEO of SOCAR Türkiye Elchin Ibadov said.
Ibadov provided the update during a press conference in Istanbul, highlighting that of the total volume, 30.8 billion cubic meters were delivered to Türkiye, while 42.74 billion cubic meters were sent to Europe, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
These figures underscore the growing importance of TANAP as a key energy route connecting Azerbaijan's natural gas reserves to European and Turkish markets.
The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) project stands as a pivotal symbol of the robust energy cooperation between the sister nations of Türkiye and Azerbaijan. It is the most critical segment of the Southern Gas Corridor, linking the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). As the longest (1,811 km) and widest (56 inches in diameter) natural gas pipeline in Türkiye, the Middle East, and Europe, TANAP plays a central role in transporting natural gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field, first to Türkiye and then onwards to Europe.
TANAP's mission is to construct and operate a natural gas pipeline with a high transmission capacity, adhering to the highest international standards of quality, occupational health and safety, as well as social and environmental responsibility.
Its goal is to deliver Azerbaijani natural gas to consumers in Türkiye and Europe in a reliable and cost-effective manner. TANAP significantly strengthens the political and economic ties between Azerbaijan and the European Union, positioning Azerbaijan as a key alternative energy supplier while cementing Türkiye's role as the EU's second-largest gas supplier.
By enhancing the energy security of both Türkiye and Europe, TANAP fosters closer integration between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and the EU, fundamentally reshaping the global geopolitical energy landscape. The strategic importance of TANAP serves as an inspiration for future energy projects, underlining its pivotal role in the evolving energy sector.
