Azerbaijan joins UN talks on shaping global tax rules PHOTO

Azerbaijan is participating in the fifth substantive session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) tasked with developing a UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.

The country is represented at the session by Jeyhun Ismayilov, Deputy Head of Azerbaijan’s State Tax Service’s Main Department for International Taxation and Tax Monitoring and a member of an expert group of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Caliber.Az reports per local media.

The session is addressing key issues in international taxation, including the equitable allocation of taxing rights among states, efforts to combat illicit financial flows and harmful tax practices, and measures to strengthen the institutional capacity of developing countries.

Participants are also reviewing preliminary draft protocols covering the taxation of income from cross-border services, including digital services, as well as mechanisms for preventing and resolving tax disputes.

During the negotiations, Ismayilov underscored the importance of establishing practical and enforceable rules, preventing double taxation, and ensuring effective technical assistance for developing countries.
