SOCAR, TotalEnergies deepen talks on energy transition and emissions

SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) and France’s TotalEnergies discussed ways to deepen cooperation on carbon dioxide emissions reduction and the energy transition during the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku.

SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf said on X that he met on the forum’s second day with Nicolas Terraz, TotalEnergies’ President for Exploration and Production, Senior Vice President Martina Opizzi and Managing Director Emmanuel de Guillebon.

The talks underscored the importance of reaching a Final Investment Decision on the full-scale development of the Absheron gas and condensate field, which the companies regard as a key element of their long-term partnership.

“We also exchanged views on our joint efforts to reduce carbon emissions and advance the energy transition, as well as on future initiatives,” Najaf said.

He added that joint projects between SOCAR and TotalEnergies were contributing to the development of Azerbaijan’s energy potential while helping strengthen energy security at both the regional and global levels.
