Slovakia advances talks on Azerbaijani gas purchases

Azerbaijan and Slovakia have held a new round of talks on potential gas supplies, with discussions taking place on the sidelines of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku.

Slovak Ambassador to Azerbaijan Elchin Gasimov said on social media that the forum had demonstrated growing investor interest in Azerbaijan and the wider South Caucasus region.

Gasimov said he had held constructive discussions with Vladimir Shimonak, State Secretary at Slovakia’s Ministry of Economy, and the management of Slovak national gas company SPP on further joint projects, including the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Slovakia.

Slovakia has previously indicated that it intends to purchase about 1.2 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually after 2027.
