President Vucic: Azerbaijan - reliable partner of Serbia in natural gas supplies
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of Serbia in natural gas supplies.
He made the remarks at a government meeting, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The president noted that currently, the country's gas consumption is about 13.5-14.5 million cubic meters per day.
Presently, Serbia imports up to 2.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from Azerbaijan.
As part of broader energy cooperation, Serbia's gas reserves are bolstered by underground storage facilities in both Serbia and Hungary, which hold a combined total of approximately 430 million cubic meters of gas. This strategic partnership has placed Serbia as the 8th country receiving Azerbaijani gas, further solidifying the strong energy ties between the two nations.
To recall, in December 2023, Serbia began importing Azerbaijani gas following the launch of the Serbia-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector. This interconnector links Serbia's gas network with Bulgaria's, facilitating access to Azerbaijani gas and enhancing energy security in the region. This 170-kilometer pipeline, with a capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters per year, facilitates the flow of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia, thereby reducing its reliance on Russian gas supplies.
Azerbaijan has been a significant supplier of natural gas to Europe, primarily through the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which includes the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). This infrastructure enables the transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea to European markets, enhancing energy diversification and security.
