16 September 2026 16:40

Azerbaijan recorded a foreign trade surplus of $10.39 billion in January–August 2026, more than five times the level recorded during the same period a year earlier, according to data from the State Customs Committee.

The country’s total foreign trade turnover reached $33.24 billion, marking a 3.5% increase compared with January–August 2025, Caliber.Az reports.

Exports rose by 27.8% year on year to $21.82 billion, while imports fell by 24.1% to $11.42 billion.

Azerbaijan traded with 175 countries during the first eight months of 2026, compared with 173 countries during the corresponding period of 2025.

The number of individuals and legal entities participating in the country’s foreign economic activity declined to 37,474, from 54,013 a year earlier.

The latest figures mark a significant change from Azerbaijan’s trade performance in 2025. Last year, the country posted a foreign trade surplus of approximately $663.1 million, down 8.3-fold from 2024. Total trade turnover in 2025 reached $49.42 billion, with exports declining 5.7% to $25.04 billion and imports increasing 15.8% to $24.38 billion.
