Czech government approves bill to ban mobile phones in schools

20 July 2026 19:27

The Czech government has approved a bill banning children from using mobile phones and other electronic devices in schools and educational institutions.

Under the legislation, the use of electronic devices would be prohibited not only during lessons but also during breaks, in cafeterias, after-school programmes and extracurricular activities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Czech media.

Exceptions would be made for children who require electronic devices for medical reasons, such as monitoring blood sugar levels for diabetes.

Schools would also be allowed to authorise the use of devices for educational purposes or during field trips.

The bill has now been submitted to parliament, with the new rules expected to take effect on September 1, 2027.
