Deputy Minister: Opening of Zangazur corridor to contribute to expansion of transport links
Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov has said "the opening of the Zangezur corridor will contribute to the expansion of international transport links”.
Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov said this in a meeting with the Japanese delegation on October 25, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan to study the opportunities of the Middle Corridor, according to APA.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs of Japan, Japanese companies and the Japanese Embassy in Baku.
Hummatov spoke in detail about the opportunities of the Middle Corridor and noted that in addition to the development of physical infrastructure, it is necessary to take such measures as harmonization of the tariff policy, simplification of the border crossing procedure, and digitalization of the corridor.
The deputy minister added that together with Türkiye and Georgia, efforts are being stepped up to accelerate the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which is of vital importance in the Middle Corridor and to gradually increase its capacity.
“The opening of the Zangezur corridor will contribute to the expansion of international transport links,” Hummatov emphasized.
During the meeting, it was noted that the digitalization of the Middle Corridor is one of the most important tools in terms of transparency in transit traffic and ensuring equal conditions for carriers.
Confidence was expressed that the Middle Corridor will become a competitive, intensively used route with joint efforts and effective cooperation of the countries located on the corridor.
Hummatov also noted that mutual visits further deepen cooperation in the transport field between Azerbaijan and Japan.
