World Bank spotlights Middle Corridor’s green potential At Baku Climate Action Week
During a roundtable discussion at Baku Climate Action Week, Stefanie Stallmeister, World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan, highlighted the Middle Corridor's potential to be recognized as a "green" corridor.
She emphasized the importance of transitioning this corridor into a fully sustainable transport route through significant commitments from both operators and governments, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
To enhance the corridor’s eco-friendliness, Stallmeister underscored the need for investments in low- or zero-emission fuels and the development of necessary infrastructure for their storage. She stressed that regulatory frameworks must be established to make low-carbon fuels competitive in the market, which is essential to attract private sector investment.
The World Bank official further advocated for involving the private sector in financing pilot projects aimed at demonstrating the viability of green initiatives. She noted that showcasing successful projects would be crucial for encouraging broader adoption in the region.
As the global focus on sustainability intensifies, the World Bank's insights could pave the way for innovative developments along the Middle Corridor, positioning it as a leader in environmentally friendly transport solutions.
