Swiss trade share soars in Azerbaijan as non-oil exports surge
Switzerland's share in Azerbaijan’s foreign trade has seen a significant surge in the first half of 2025, with bilateral trade volume reaching $377.2 million.
According to data released by the State Customs Committee, quoted by domestic media, this figure marks an increase of $275.4 million, or 3.7 times, compared to the same period in 2024.
From January to June 2025, Switzerland accounted for 1.55% of Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover. During the reporting period, exports from Azerbaijan to Switzerland amounted to $205.3 million, representing a $143.6 million increase, or 3.3 times more than in the corresponding months of the previous year.
Meanwhile, imports from Switzerland to Azerbaijan rose even more sharply. The volume of Swiss goods brought into the country totalled $171.9 million, up $131.8 million, or 4.3 times, compared to the first six months of 2024.
The export of non-oil products from Azerbaijan to Switzerland also demonstrated robust growth. In the first half of 2025, non-oil exports reached $151.5 million, a $89.8 million rise, or 2.4 times more than during the same period last year.
Switzerland accounted for 8.64% of Azerbaijan's total non-oil exports in the reporting period, making it the fourth-largest importer of Azerbaijani non-oil products.
Overall, Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover between January and June 2025 amounted to $24.4 billion, an increase of $2.632 billion, or 12.1%, compared to the same period in 2024.
Of this amount, $12.878 billion was attributed to exports, and $11.522 billion to imports. While exports fell 0.2% year-on-year, imports rose significantly by 29.9%.
Despite the strong import growth, Azerbaijan maintained a positive foreign trade balance of $1.356 billion. However, this surplus was three times lower than the previous year, down $2.677 billion.
