Heavy snowfall has covered Moscow and the surrounding region, following an abrupt change in weather conditions.
Rain that began in the Russian capital on the evening of April 26 turned into wet snow overnight, leaving roads, vehicles, and trees coated in a layer of snow by morning. Authorities had earlier issued a yellow weather alert, warning of heavy precipitation and the risk of wet snow accumulation. Snowfall is expected to continue in Moscow until the evening of April 28.
In response to the severe weather, the Russian Emergencies Ministry urged residents to park in safe locations and avoid unstable structures and billboards. The city’s transport authorities also warned of possible temporary adjustments to tram schedules due to the conditions and advised drivers who have already switched to summer tyres to use public transport instead.
The unseasonal snowfall has already caused disruptions. In the Moskvorechye-Saburovo District, residents reported that strong winds and heavy snow uprooted two trees on Kantemirovskaya Street, damaging parked cars and completely blocking the road. Locals said vehicles were forced to bypass the obstruction by driving over curbs, risking further damage.
Similar incidents were reported in the Zyuzino District, where a fallen tree struck a parked car on Sivashskaya Street. Residents are calling for a swift response from municipal services to clear the debris and restore normal traffic flow.
