ASTRA: Ukrainian drones target military airfield in Russia’s Taganrog PHOTO/VIDEO

Ukrainian drones likely targeted a military airfield in the Russian city of Taganrog, in the Rostov region, overnight on September 12, according to an analysis by the independent OSINT outlet ASTRA.

Local Telegram channels reported drone activity over the Rostov region from the early hours of Friday, followed by videos showing thick smoke rising over Taganrog.

An ASTRA OSINT analysis indicated that the smoke appeared to be coming from the direction of Taganrog-Central military airfield, which is located within the city. The facility is home to Russia’s 708th Military Transport Aviation Regiment. A nearby aircraft repair facility, the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, services transport aircraft and related components.

Local channels initially reported that emergency services were responding to the aftermath of the incident.

Later, Taganrog Mayor Svetlana Kambulova confirmed that the city had come under what she described as a “massive air attack.”

According to Kambulova, Russian air-defence forces destroyed drones over the city, while emergency crews were responding to fires at several locations where debris had fallen.

“There are no casualties,” she said, adding that authorities would provide further information on the damage.
