Iran, Oman to sign Strait of Hormuz route agreement

Iran is prepared to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States ends its maritime blockade of the country, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in an interview on Saturday, September 12.

According to Iran International, Pezeshkian said Iran and Oman would sign an agreement on Monday in Muscat establishing a joint route through the Strait of Hormuz, in the presence of the foreign ministers of Arab countries. The document would then be submitted to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for consideration.

Pezeshkian accused Washington of resorting to a maritime blockade after failing to achieve its objectives through direct military confrontation.

He stressed that external pressure would not force Iran to back down.
