Kremlin: Putin’s attendance at US G20 summit has not been discussed

12 September 2026 13:41

The Kremlin has not yet discussed whether Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the upcoming G20 summit in the United States, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said.

Speaking to Izvestia, Ushakov said preparations for the summit were continuing at the expert level, with Russian officials working on documents ahead of the meeting.

“Everyone has been invited, as far as I am aware, unfortunately with the exception of South Africa. But the matter has not even been discussed. Work is being carried out at expert level. Our [experts] are constantly working on the documents for the upcoming summit; in other words, everything is proceeding as usual,” Ushakov said.

“As for the possibility of Putin travelling there, this issue has not even been discussed here,” he added.

The comments come after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was prepared to meet Putin at the G20 summit in Miami if the Russian leader attends.

Zelenskyy said he would attend the December summit if Putin were present, arguing that any meeting should focus on achieving concrete results rather than exchanges of statements.

Putin has not attended a G20 summit in person since 2019.
