Iran gives US seven conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

12 September 2026 23:16

Iran has conveyed seven conditions to the United States through intermediaries, saying that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Washington fulfils them, Tasnim reported on September 12, citing a source.

According to the source, the seven conditions have been approved by Iran’s highest authorities.

“Iran has communicated seven conditions to the American side via intermediaries for the opening of the Strait and the strait will remain closed until these seven conditions, endorsed by the highest authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, are implemented,” the source said.

The source stressed that any agreement reached between Iran and Oman would not, by itself, result in the reopening of the strategic waterway.

“The understanding between Iran and Oman does not mean the Strait of Hormuz is being opened; rather, it implies that if the strait is to be opened, it will be done based on this understanding, which is considered a step toward asserting Iran’s sovereignty over it,” the source said.

According to the source, the decision to reopen the strait now depends entirely on Washington’s actions.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy corridor linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
