Iranian president calls for greater unity among Muslim countries

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for greater unity among Muslim countries, saying regional security should be ensured by the countries of the region themselves.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Malaysia’s prime minister on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, Iran International reports. 

“Solidarity among Muslim countries is essential under the current circumstances,” Pezeshkian said.

He also rejected the idea of an outside power acting as a security guarantor for the region.

“We do not need a gendarme for the region. The region's territorial integrity and security can only be ensured by its main actors and the countries of the region,” he added.
