US announces "sudden" withdrawal of troops from Iraq

The United States has decided to “suddenly” withdraw its military personnel from the Ain al-Asad and Victoria bases in Iraq and to accelerate the overall drawdown of its forces in the country.

American troops are beginning to relocate personnel to a military base in Erbil and to a neighbouring Arab country, Caliber.Az reports, citing Sky News Arabia.

“U.S. officials have informed their Iraqi counterparts that they will speed up the troop withdrawal process and will not adhere to the schedule established under the bilateral framework agreement,” the source told the network.

In September 2024, the United States announced the conclusion of the international mission in Iraq and the planned withdrawal of its forces.
