Azerbaijan sees rise in sea cargo traffic
Azerbaijan has reported a 10% increase in cargo transported by sea in the first seven months of 2025, compared with the same period last year.
According to the State Statistics Committee, a total of 5.395 million tonnes of goods were moved by maritime transport between January and July, Caliber.Az reports.
Oil shipments accounted for nearly half of the total, representing 48.2% of all cargo.
Ports across the country handled 7.907 million tonnes in loading and unloading operations during the period, with transit cargo making up 80.9% of this volume, or 6.399 million tonnes.
As of August 1, 2025, Azerbaijani ports reportedly held 338,600 tonnes of cargo awaiting shipment.
Meanwhile, passenger transport by sea declined by 5.7% over the same period, with 14,800 people recorded as having travelled by maritime routes.
