Massive warehouse fire erupts in Hamburg Port, triggering explosions, injuries
A major fire at a warehouse in the Port of Hamburg has triggered multiple loud explosions and left several people injured, local authorities confirmed.
Dramatic video footage circulating on social media shows towering flames and dense plumes of smoke rising into the sky, as emergency services rushed to the scene on August 25 afternoon, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. local time in the city’s bustling industrial port area. Witnesses reported hearing repeated explosions—believed to be gas canisters igniting—sending debris flying several hundred meters and endangering nearby road traffic. Preliminary reports suggest the blaze may have originated from a vehicle belonging to a logistics company parked inside the facility.
Fragments from the explosions were scattered as far as the A1 motorway, prompting police to shut down the major thoroughfare in both directions.
The railway connection between Hamburg Central Station and the district of Hamburg was temporarily suspended as a precaution. However, Deutsche Bahn has stated that long-distance train services remain unaffected.
Emergency crews are actively working to contain the fire and prevent further escalation, while investigators assess the cause of the blaze. Authorities have cordoned off the surrounding area and urged residents and visitors to stay clear of the zone.
Footage from eyewitnesses shows intense flames engulfing parts of the warehouse as firefighters battle the inferno amid periodic explosions. The scale of the fire and the hazardous conditions have made it one of the most serious industrial incidents in Hamburg in recent years.
