EAEU summit inks two international documents on external trade expansion

29 May 2026 19:14

Two international documents aimed at developing the Eurasian Economic Union’s external economic relations were signed at the EAEU summit, the head of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, has announced.

“First: we are starting negotiations on a free trade agreement with Tunisia. (…) Tunisia is a strategic gateway for the Eurasian Five to access the fast-growing African market,” Sagintayev said.

The second document concerns updating certain agreements reached in 2019 with Serbia, particularly regarding the simplification of requirements for transport and shipping documentation under the existing free trade agreement, he explained.

Sagintayev also noted that negotiations with India are ongoing, while a joint research group has been launched with Pakistan. He added that the EAEU has expressed readiness to advance talks with Jordan, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, and is currently awaiting responses from these partners.
