Gaza death toll climbs amid ongoing Israeli strikes
The death toll in the Gaza Strip has now surpassed 39,200 since the onset of the Israeli military operation in the region, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
The ministry announced that, as of now, 39,258 people have been killed and 90,589 injured since Israel’s offensive, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
On July 27, Israeli attacks in the Deir al-Balah area resulted in 30 deaths and over 100 injuries. Additionally, an Israeli raid in Khan Younis led to 23 deaths and approximately 90 injuries, as reported by the Health Ministry.
Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a deadly surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The carnage triggered a fierce response from Israel, whose military launched massive retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip. Since then, the Palestinian enclave of 2.3 million inhabitants, under Israeli blockade since 2007, has been living under bombardment, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.
Over nine months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately halt its military operation in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before it was invaded on May 6.
