French Foreign Minister poised to become European Commissioner

French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné has announced his readiness to step down from his ministerial role to assume the position of European Commissioner.

Séjourné confirmed his intention via a post on X, stating that he will be leaving his current role in the coming days, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

Séjourné, who has served as Foreign Minister since January 2024, is set to meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Strasbourg on September 18 to discuss his new responsibilities.

The move follows French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal to appoint Séjourné as European Commissioner, a position vacated by Thierry Breton who resigned amid differences with von der Leyen.
